The ninth Cairo Water Week is scheduled to take place from October 25 to 29, focusing on water security, sustainable development, and peace. Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam confirmed the event will host 11 ministers and special envoys alongside representatives from international organizations.
Who is organizing the event?
The European Union and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are co-organizing the event. Other participating entities include UNESCO, the International Water Management Institute, Germany’s GIZ, and the World Water Council.
What is the focus of the sessions?
The program features 114 technical and scientific sessions. Topics include green water, capacity building in Africa and the Arab region, and bilateral partnerships in the Nile Basin. The event will also host a preparatory session for the 2026 UN Water Conference.
Are there concurrent events?
Yes, the seventh Arab Water Conference will occur on October 26 and 27. Additionally, an international exhibition on water, wastewater, and energy infrastructure is scheduled from October 26 to 28.
What opportunities exist for researchers?
The scientific committee accepted 104 research abstracts. Selected full papers may be published in the journal World Water Policy. Competitions for young innovators and researchers are also planned.
