Friday, 22 November 2024

Czech players Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova defeated Spain’s Jessica Bouzas and Cristina Bucsa in straight sets. Bouzas lost 7-5, 6-4 in 1 hour 39 minutes, while Bucsa fell 7-6(5), 6-2 in 1 hour 29 minutes. No points were won in the singles rubbers, and the tie concluded without a deciding match.

Aftermath

Spanish captain Carla Suárez said the team showed fight and collective effort, noting they had not given up despite the defeat. She highlighted the close first sets but said the Spaniards could not convert any sets against a higher‑level opponent.

Historical Context

Spain has not reached a final since 2008 and has not won the tournament since 1998. Suárez pointed out that the team won the April qualifier away from home and, 18 years later, reached a semifinal, describing the result as a “step forward”.

Looking Ahead

Suárez said the goal remains to reach a final and win the competition soon, and the squad will continue working toward that objective.
