Suez Canal Economic Zone inks $55 million deal for digital truck yard at Sokhna Port

The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) signed a contract worth more than EGP 1 billion with Nafeza Egypt Logistics Services to build and run a digitally managed truck yard at Sokhna Port.

Project details

The yard will cover 167,000 square metres and is designed to handle up to 1,100 trucks per day once fully operational. Nafeza will use its digital platforms to plan truck movements in real time and ease congestion inside the port. The agreement was signed by SCZone Vice Chairperson Ahmed Gamal, Nafeza Chairperson Abeer Leheta and Vice Chairman Nora Mehyar, with SCZone Chairperson Mostafa Sheikhoon attending the ceremony.

Analysis

SCZone officials say the project is part of a broader push to upgrade basic infrastructure and superstructure across all zone ports. By partnering with local and international private firms, the authority aims to modernise port operations and reinforce the zone’s appeal to global investors. The digital yard is intended to improve logistical efficiency, support Egypt’s goal of expanding exports and localising manufacturing, and integrate the zone’s ports with its industrial zones.

Outlook

Stakeholders will watch the yard’s rollout for its impact on truck turnaround times and overall port throughput. Successful implementation could bolster SCZone’s positioning as an integrated logistics corridor linking continents under existing free‑trade agreements that grant access to more than 3.5 billion consumers worldwide.
