Ferragimo Draws Inspiration from 1940s Workwear for New Collection

Italian luxury brand Ferragamo announced on Monday that its upcoming ready-to-wear line will be inspired by clothing worn by workers in the 1940s.

The fashion house said designers examined archival photographs and textile samples from the World War II era to reinterpret utilitarian silhouettes for modern consumers. Elements such as high-waisted trousers, sturdy cotton fabrics and functional pockets are being incorporated into dresses, jackets and accessories.

Ferragamo’s creative director, who requested anonymity, explained that the aim is to blend historical authenticity with contemporary style. “We want to honor the durability and simplicity of that period while offering a fresh aesthetic,” the director said.

Design Details

The collection will feature muted earth tones, reinforced stitching and metal hardware reminiscent of wartime uniforms. Tailoring will emphasize clean lines and practical details, reflecting the era’s emphasis on efficiency.

Market Context

Industry analysts note a growing trend of heritage-inspired fashion, with brands tapping nostalgia to attract buyers seeking timeless pieces. Ferragamo’s move follows similar releases from competitors that have highlighted mid‑century work attire.

The line is slated for launch in February 2025 during the brand’s Paris runway show, with retail availability expected shortly thereafter.
