Egypt Channels Over EGP 12.7bn to NGOs in 2026, Cumulative Support Tops EGP 52.5bn

Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity said NGOs received about EGP 12.714 billion in financing during 2026, bringing total support to more than EGP 52.5 billion over the past 12 years.

Key takeaways

  • Financing level: EGP 12.714 billion allocated to NGOs in the current year.
  • Cumulative aid: Over EGP 52.5 billion disbursed since 2012.
  • Fund contribution: The Fund for Supporting Projects of NGOs and Civil Society Institutions provided EGP 4.9 billion for 20,188 projects.
  • Sector size: Approximately 36,000 civil‑society associations and institutions are now registered.
  • Regulatory progress: Law No. 149 of 2019 has been fully applied, creating an updated database of active entities.

Financing details

Minister Maya Morsi reported that the Fund alone supported 20,188 projects carried out by 11,373 NGOs and civil‑society institutions, allocating EGP 4.9 billion. She emphasized that each project reaches villages, families and individuals.

Sector transformation

Morsi said civil society has shifted from fragmented groups to an organized system built on four pillars: community support, partnership for development, governance and transparency. The regularisation of associations under the 2019 law has produced a more accurate registry.

Role in development goals

The ministry views NGOs as partners in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. The Misr El Kheir Award, now in its seventh edition, dedicates each cycle to a specific SDG to evaluate civil‑society impact from a new angle.
