Lombardy launches €2 million grant to upgrade taxis to electric and hybrid models

In a push to clean up the streets, Lombardy’s regional government announced a €2 million fund aimed at modernising the local taxi fleet. The scheme will cover part of the cost for drivers who replace their ageing cars with electric or hybrid vehicles, helping them meet new environmental standards while keeping fares affordable.

Eligible taxi operators can apply for subsidies that offset purchase or lease expenses, making the transition to greener technology more realistic. By encouraging a shift away from diesel‑powered cabs, the region hopes to cut emissions, improve air quality and set a precedent for other Italian regions to follow.
