Diesel Prices Jump 8% in September Despite Bigger Tax Cut

Fuel costs are still scorching the market, prompting the government to extend its anti‑crisis shield until the end of the year.

  1. On Thursday the new aid package kicks in, just as the EU’s Petroleum Bulletin reports Spanish pump prices hitting their highest levels since 2022.
  2. Both diesel and gasoline are hovering around €1.90 per litre, a price not seen in four years.
  3. Diesel leads the surge, climbing close to 8% in September even though it enjoys a larger tax discount than gasoline.
  4. Gasoline also rose sharply, up nearly 7% over the same period.

The steep jump in diesel underscores how volatile fuel markets remain.
