EuroLeague Moves Toward a Franchise Model

Big changes are coming to European basketball. The EuroLeague recently gathered its top leaders at a summit in Cernobbio, Italy, to map out the future of the competition.

  1. EuroLeague president Dejan Bodiroga and CEO Chus Bueno met with representatives from the league’s 13 shareholder clubs.
  2. The group discussed a new 10-year business plan, officially agreeing to transition toward a franchise-based system.
  3. Leaders also opened the door to evaluating bids from other clubs interested in joining this new model.
  4. Crucially, the league intends to move forward independently, regardless of the NBA’s rumored expansion plans for Europe in 2027.

This shift marks a major turning point for the league as it looks to secure its long-term growth.
