Spain Introduces New Housing Decrees to Support Tenants and Construction

The Spanish government is making another push to address housing challenges. Following the rejection of previous proposals, the Council of Ministers has officially approved two new housing decrees. These measures largely mirror the ones previously debated, aiming to provide immediate relief for vulnerable citizens and stimulate the construction sector.

The new plan includes a crucial ban on evictions for vulnerable people who lack alternative housing. To boost supply, the government is also launching a 680-million-euro package for industrialized construction and social housing development. Additionally, a 10-billion-euro financing line managed by the ICO will help first-time buyers, while rental contracts will now see automatic extensions to ensure stability for tenants.
