Eugenio Chacarra is currently leading the Spanish Open, a feat that is impressive enough on its own. But what makes his performance truly remarkable is that he’s doing it with a broken toe. After tripping over a sofa while getting a drink of water at home last week, the Madrid native suffered a distal fracture in his right foot. Despite the injury, he was determined to play in his home tournament.
His grit paid off at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. Although he finished his round visibly limping and in pain, Chacarra carded an incredible five-under-par 66. He managed to sink eagles on the 7th and 14th holes, along with four birdies, showing that sometimes sheer willpower can overcome even the most awkward of injuries.
