Spain’s state rail operator Renfe is fast‑tracking a major upgrade to its high‑speed fleet as the country heads toward national elections. The company says it is in the final stages of ordering 30 new AVE trains, aiming to award the contract this October. At the same time, Renfe is pushing to set up a bus subsidiary that could step in when rail works or disruptions force travelers onto the road.
Renfe also plans a complete overhaul of its ticketing channels, rolling out a fresh website, mobile app and phone service at stations and agencies from 28 October. The new system will be usable for journeys starting 25 January, giving passengers a smoother, more modern way to book their trips.
