Spain’s Labor Inspectors Crack Down on Fake Freelancers

Spain’s Labor Inspection office had a very busy year in 2025, cracking down hard on companies that misclassify their workers. By keeping a closer eye on labor rules, inspectors successfully regularized thousands of jobs, marking a significant shift in how the country handles employment rights.

  1. Inspectors ramped up their activity significantly throughout the year.
  2. This increased scrutiny led to a jump in total fines, which hit 858 million euros.
  3. Officials helped 96,200 people get properly registered with Social Security.
  4. Most notably, 47,000 of those were “fake freelancers” who should have been staff.

This record-breaking effort shows authorities are serious about stopping platforms from exploiting the system.
