Long-Term Car Rentals Dip in Italy as Electric Vehicles Gain Traction

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the Italian auto market, you might have noticed a shift lately. According to new data from Unrae, long-term car rentals have hit a bit of a rough patch, dropping by 7.1% over the first nine months of the year. It seems drivers are rethinking their habits, leading to a noticeable cooling off in this specific sector of the rental industry.

However, the story isn’t all about declines. While traditional long-term rentals are slowing down, interest in cleaner vehicles is actually picking up speed. Drivers are increasingly turning toward greener options, with fully electric cars now making up 5.8% of the market and plug-in hybrids reaching 13.4%. It’s clear that even as rental trends fluctuate, the push for electric mobility continues to gain real momentum.
