Director Giorgina Pi is bringing a fresh, political edge to the stage by reimagining the classic myth of Philoctetes. In her latest production, she connects the ancient tale of an exiled hero with the turbulent history of modern Greece. By focusing on Neoptolemus’s rebellion against his father figures, Pi draws a powerful parallel to the resistance movements against the country’s antifascist dictatorships.
This isn’t just a retelling of old legends; it is a thoughtful look at how stories of the past mirror our own struggles with authority and justice. By weaving these historical threads together, Pi invites the audience to rethink how we interpret heroism and defiance in the face of oppression, making the ancient Greek tragedy feel startlingly relevant today.
