EU Sets Annual Import Cap on Chinese Hybrid Vehicles Starting December

The European Union will limit imports of Chinese-made hybrid cars to 350,000 units per year beginning on Dec. 1, according to a Bloomberg report. The restriction is part of an agreement aimed at curbing the influx of low-cost vehicles from China into the EU market.

Under the deal, the import ceiling will rise by 6% each year, allowing a gradual increase in the permitted volume while maintaining oversight. Officials said the measure seeks to balance market competition with the EU’s automotive policy goals.

Industry analysts expect the cap to affect Chinese manufacturers’ export strategies and could prompt adjustments in pricing or production. The EU has not disclosed enforcement mechanisms, but the framework signals a shift toward tighter regulation of non‑EU automotive imports.
