Zizou Bergs Upsets Carlos Alcaraz in Shanghai Masters Third Round

Zizou Bergs stunned world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the third round of the Shanghai Masters on Tuesday, winning 7-5, 7-6(4) in just over two hours. The Belgian, ranked 39th, said he felt “a mix of disbelief” as the match unfolded, adding he was simply present on court while his opponent struggled.

Bergs, 27, had arrived in Shanghai after a second title in Tokyo and said the fast surface suited his game. He told reporters he was highly motivated and hoped to improve his performance the following day. Alcaraz, who withdrew after the loss, left the tournament without further comment.

In the other third-round match, Spain’s Rafa Jódar rallied to defeat Jiri Lehecka 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 in 2 hours 42 minutes, providing a brief consolation for Spanish fans.
