Spanish Labor Strikes Surge Ahead of November General Strike

Spanish labor unions have called for a general strike on November 11, the first supported by major labor organizations in 14 years. This action follows a significant increase in labor disputes across the country throughout 2026. Data from the Ministry of Labor shows that from January to August, 1.37 million workdays were lost to strikes, involving 579,000 workers. This figure nearly doubles the total number of lost workdays recorded during all of 2025, which saw 382,700 days lost and 167,300 participants.

Unions attribute the rise in conflict to specific disputes in sectors including healthcare and early childhood education. Representatives also point to the expiration of the national collective bargaining agreement at the end of 2025 as a primary driver for the widespread unrest. #Spain #LaborNews #GeneralStrike #Economy
