Pompeii has opened a new archaeology school aimed at training young researchers, offering high‑level internships that follow the legacy of 19th‑century archaeologist Giuseppe Fiorelli.
The program provides participants with hands‑on experience at the UNESCO World Heritage site, combining classroom instruction with fieldwork in the city’s excavated districts. Organisers say the curriculum is designed to develop practical skills in excavation, documentation and conservation.
Fiorelli, who pioneered systematic digging methods at Pompeii, inspired the initiative’s focus on rigorous scientific approaches. The school expects to host dozens of interns each season, fostering the next generation of scholars in classical archaeology.
