CMA CGM Resumes Suez Canal Routes as Transit Volumes Rise

French shipping company CMA CGM is restoring its transit services through the Suez Canal, designating the waterway as a sustainable long-term route. Christine Cabau, executive vice president of assets and operations, confirmed the decision during a meeting with Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie. The discussions focused on aligning sailing policies and encouraging broader international maritime traffic.

The SCA reported a significant increase in the transit of large container vessels exceeding 130,000 tons. Data shows 166 such ships utilized the canal between July and September 2026, compared to 16 vessels during the same period in 2025. Officials stated the canal remains essential for global supply chains by reducing transit times and operational costs. #SuezCanal #CMACGM #Shipping #MaritimeTrade
