Rome – The Italian transport ministry announced new measures to curb illegal modifications of microcars and revised the road code regarding driver licensing and pedestrian fines.
- Effective July 1, the ministry will enforce stricter inspections of “minicar” alterations, targeting unapproved engine upgrades and cosmetic changes.
- Owners of modified vehicles will be required to replace standard plates with personalized registration numbers that display compliance status.
- Simultaneously, the revised road code eliminates the provisional licence for 17‑year‑old drivers, raising the minimum age for a full driving licence to 18.
- The code also removes the penalty that fined pedestrians for using smartphones while crossing marked zebra crossings.
The changes aim to improve road safety and simplify enforcement, ministry officials said. #transport #roadSafety
