Egypt Targets Export Growth at 9th International Dates Festival

Egypt currently produces 20% of the world’s dates and 25% of Arab production, according to Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem. Speaking at the 9th International Egyptian Dates Festival in the Siwa Oasis, officials announced plans to update the national strategy for the sector to increase exports and value-added manufacturing.

The government aims to expand date palm cultivation, including a 2.3 million palm project in the Toshka and East Oweinat regions. The Ministry of Industry is working with the Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO to improve post-harvest practices and support small enterprises. During the event, which concluded on October 16, officials inaugurated an upgraded government factory in Siwa designed to process date byproducts like paste and animal feed. #Egypt #Agriculture #Dates #Siwa #GlobalTrade @UNFAO @MinistryOfIndustryEgypt
