Spain’s Grid Operator Denies Power Plant Maintenance Requests

Supply Security Measures Tighten

Red Eléctrica de España (REE), the nation’s grid operator, has formally rejected planned maintenance shutdowns for major electricity providers over the next year. The operator cited concerns regarding current stress levels on the electrical system. This directive follows a period of heightened scrutiny over national supply security.

  1. REE issued a notification to all major utility companies denying scheduled maintenance requests for the upcoming 12 months.
  2. The operator invoked “operation procedure 2.5,” which governs unit maintenance plans, to classify all scheduled revisions as non-compliant.
  3. Utility companies must now immediately reschedule their maintenance operations according to the new requirements.

The grid operator maintains this action is necessary to ensure the stability and security of the power supply.
