Italian autonomous vehicle firm Niulinx has warned that Italy risks losing innovation to foreign markets unless the government updates its highway code. The company, which has secured 38 million euros in funding from investors including Cdp and A2a, stated that current regulations are insufficient for the widespread testing and deployment of self-driving technology. Without legislative changes, the firm indicated it may be forced to shift its operations abroad to countries with more favorable legal frameworks.
Industry experts have long argued that national traffic laws often lag behind rapid advancements in automotive technology. Niulinx’s call for reform highlights the friction between existing road safety mandates and the integration of automated systems. The company currently seeks clearer legal guidelines to facilitate further development within the domestic market.
