Rafa Jódar defeated Casper Ruud on Friday to reach the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters 1000. The 20-year-old Spaniard won the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 21 minutes. He will face the winner of the contest between Daniil Medvedev and Tommy Paul in Saturday’s semifinal match.
Jódar relied on an aggressive playing style to overcome the experienced Norwegian. Ruud struggled during rallies, committing 45 unforced errors throughout the match. Jódar has now reached the semifinals of a Masters 1000 tournament for the second time this year, following his performance in Canada in August. This marks his fourth semifinal appearance of the season. The other semifinal match features Alexander Zverev and Alejandro Davidovich.
