Plans to establish an independent authority to resolve disputes between banking clients and financial institutions have stalled for the second time. The project, intended to streamline consumer complaints, faced a new legislative setback following the announcement of early general elections in Spain.
Originally proposed by former economy minister Nadia Calviño in 2022, the initiative neared completion before the July 2023 elections halted progress. Current minister Carlos Cuerpo attempted to revive the proposal during the recent legislative session, but parliamentary delays prevented it from advancing. The dissolution of parliament effectively kills the bill. Several other financial regulations, including measures covering digitalization and consumer credit, have also been abandoned due to the electoral cycle. #Finance #Spain #Banking #Economy @BancoDeEspana @CNMV_medios
