The African Business Council (AfBC) has re-elected Amani Asfour as its president for a second term. The vote occurred during the council’s General Assembly meeting in El Alamein, Egypt, which coincided with the African Union’s Mid-Year Coordination Summit. Members also selected four vice presidents to represent regional and sectoral institutions, including leaders from the COMESA Business Council and the Pan African Manufacturers Association.
Asfour stated the council will prioritize the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to drive economic integration. The leadership plans to advocate for policies that boost intra-African trade, support small and medium-sized enterprises, and reduce reliance on raw material exports. The AfBC intends to collaborate with the African Union Commission and regional partners to improve business competitiveness across the continent.
