Alex Baena scored a decisive goal in the final minute of play to secure a victory for Atlético Madrid against a resilient Espanyol side. The midfielder curled a shot from the edge of the penalty area past goalkeeper Fortuño to break the deadlock late in the match.
The goal marks Baena’s fifth of the season, adding to his three assists, establishing him as a key offensive contributor for the club. This result allows Atlético to maintain pressure on league leaders Barcelona before their upcoming match against Real Betis. Espanyol had successfully slowed the pace of the game for much of the contest before the late breakthrough.
