China’s economy expanded 4.5% year‑on‑year in the July‑September quarter, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday. The growth rate marked a tenth of a percentage point increase from the previous quarter, driven by a surge in exports and a rebound in industrial output.
The statistical agency said the manufacturing sector posted a notable rise while overseas demand for Chinese goods strengthened. Consumer spending remained weak and private investment continued to decline, offsetting some of the gains. The quarter followed a slowdown in April‑June, when growth fell to its lowest level since late 2022, despite a 5% year‑on‑year increase in the January‑March period.
Analysts noted that the latest figures suggest a tentative stabilization of the economy, though the uneven performance across sectors could pose challenges for sustained momentum.
