Egypt’s health minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met Kevork Tamamyan, Armenia’s candidate for World Health Organization director‑general, to discuss the agency’s future priorities. Tamamyan, a haematology and paediatric oncology specialist, outlined plans to strengthen WHO’s response to global health challenges, improve health‑system support and expand equitable access to care.
The dialogue focused on the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer, with both sides examining ways to boost early diagnosis, treatment and comprehensive care for children with cancer. They also reviewed the pandemic accord, stressing the need for stronger prevention, preparedness and coordinated response to health emergencies.
