Rapido Scales Operations Through Razorpay Payment Integration

Indian bike taxi platform Rapido has integrated payment infrastructure from Razorpay to manage high-volume, real-time transactions across its nationwide network. The partnership aims to stabilize payment processing for millions of daily rides, ensuring consistent service for both customers and drivers.

2015: Founding and Strategy

Aravind Sanka, Pavan Guntupalli, and SR Rishikesh established Rapido to address last-mile connectivity challenges in Indian cities. The founders identified two-wheeled vehicles as a more efficient alternative to cars and public transit, offering lower costs and better maneuverability in dense traffic. The company launched in Bengaluru with a limited number of drivers, known as Captains.

Operational Expansion

Since its inception, Rapido has grown into a major bike taxi platform, expanding its services to over 400 cities. The company has since diversified its offerings to include auto-rickshaws, cabs, and delivery services. To support this growth, the firm required a payment partner capable of handling instant micro-transactions to prevent service disruptions for riders and lost earnings for drivers.

Integration and Performance

Rapido adopted Razorpay’s payment stack to manage its transaction volume. According to company data, this integration has resulted in Unified Payments Interface (UPI) success rates exceeding 98 percent. The system currently processes more than 150,000 transactions monthly. Rapido co-founder Aravind Sanka stated that the infrastructure is central to the company’s ability to scale operations while maintaining reliability.

Current Status of Payment Infrastructure

Rapido continues to operate across hundreds of Indian cities, utilizing the Razorpay partnership to support its growing portfolio of transportation and delivery services. The collaboration remains focused on maintaining payment consistency as the platform expands into new markets and additional service categories.
