Nissin Launches ‘Isekai’ Crossover Cup Noodle Series

For fans of Japanese pop culture, the term “isekai” typically refers to stories where characters are transported to alternate worlds. Now, the instant noodle manufacturer Nissin is applying that concept to its product line, launching a “Gattai” or “combination” series that merges its traditional Cup Noodle flavors with other established food brands.

New Collaborative Flavors

The company announced three new varieties, each designed to incorporate elements from outside the instant ramen industry. The first offering pairs the standard Cup Noodle with Gindaco, a prominent takoyaki chain. This version features a broth enhanced with extra bonito stock, mimicking the flavor profile of octopus dumplings. It includes powdered seaweed, pickled ginger, and “octopus-style” balls alongside Nissin’s signature mystery meat. A separate oil packet is provided to replicate the cooking oil used in Gindaco’s preparation process.

A second entry combines Curry Cup Noodle with Karamucho, a popular brand of spicy potato snacks. This iteration increases the heat of the standard curry broth by adding chili peppers and garlic. The cup contains chili-spiced potato pieces, mystery meat, and carrots.

The final variety merges the Seafood Cup Noodle with Gohan Desu Yo, a brand of simmered seaweed paste typically served with rice. This version includes a packet of seaweed paste intended to be added after the noodles are cooked. The broth is supplemented with extra seaweed, squid, imitation crab, cabbage, egg, and green onion.

Market Availability

All three new Cup Noodle varieties are priced at 259 yen, approximately $1.65 USD. According to the company, these products are scheduled to be released on November 9.

Why it matters: This product launch highlights an ongoing trend in the Japanese food market where major manufacturers leverage cross-brand collaborations to revitalize staple products. By integrating well-known snack and restaurant flavors into its established instant noodle architecture, Nissin aims to attract consumers looking for novelty within the convenience food sector.
