Inkle Acquires Finally Bookkeeping Division to Expand US Accounting Services

Acquisition expands workforce and client reach

Inkle, a San Francisco-based accounting firm that develops its technology in Bengaluru, has acquired the bookkeeping arm of the small-business finance platform Finally. This all-cash asset purchase marks the company’s first acquisition since its founding in 2022.

The deal integrates approximately 100 Finally employees into Inkle’s existing 60-member team. The new staff, located across the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the United States, will join Inkle’s engineers, designers, and tax professionals. The expanded workforce of 160 employees enables the firm to provide continuous support to clients across the Americas and Asia.

Finally’s existing bookkeeping clients will retain their current service teams while transitioning to Inkle’s internal software. Previously, Inkle primarily served venture-backed startups. This acquisition shifts the company’s focus toward non-tech small businesses, including restaurants, contractors, and professional service firms.

Addressing the accounting talent shortage

Inkle CEO Anand Krishna stated the company aims to modernize accounting services by combining US-licensed CPAs with Indian engineering and AI development. The firm’s proprietary software, Inkle Books, is built by developers working alongside accountants, allowing for rapid resolution of technical issues.

The company views this acquisition as a strategy to address the growing shortage of accounting professionals in the United States. According to the AICPA’s 2025 Trends Report, the number of accounting degrees awarded in 2023-24 fell by 6.6% to 55,152. Inkle expects technology-led platforms to mitigate this talent gap by automating routine tasks.

Why it matters: The deal highlights a growing trend of US-based financial firms outsourcing critical engineering and service operations to hubs in India. For global markets, this model demonstrates how international collaboration can help sustain professional services amidst domestic labor shortages in Western economies.
