A home cook pauses a YouTube video, and their kitchen device automatically adjusts its settings to match the recipe’s next step. This integration of generative AI into daily cooking is the core technology behind upliance.ai, an Indian startup currently in advanced negotiations to secure $3 million to $4 million in Series A funding.
Expanding Global Operations
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the company aims to use the capital to bolster research and development efforts, enhance its user interface, and facilitate expansion into international markets. While the startup has not confirmed the deal, reports suggest a new investor may join the firm’s cap table, with existing backers like Khosla Ventures expected to participate in the round.
Founded in 2021 by former Ather Energy executive Mahek Mody and former Chaayos employee Mohit Sharma, the company produces smart kitchen hardware. Their current product lineup includes the upliance 2.0+ cooking assistant and a 12L Smart Air Fryer Oven. The technology utilizes generative AI to interpret online recipes, breaking them into actionable steps that the machines can execute, such as chopping or adjusting heat sequences.
Market Competition and Growth
The funding discussions arrive as India’s smart kitchen appliance sector experiences significant activity. Market data from MarkNtel Advisors projects the sector will reach a valuation of $2.99 billion by 2032, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 25 percent. Cooking appliances are expected to represent nearly half of this market by 2026.
The company faces increasing competition from both startups and established brands. In 2024, Wonderchef introduced its Chef Magic robot, which performs tasks like stirring, kneading, and steaming. Philips also entered the category with its OneChef device, which combines multiple cooking functions into a single unit.
