Mumbai-based healthtech startup Docterz has secured ₹5 crore in new funding to expand its hospital management software, with a significant portion of the capital coming from its own user base. The company, founded by paediatrician Dr. Atish Laddad, intends to use the investment to drive organic growth, pursue acquisitions, and develop AI-powered tools for medical professionals.
Investor Support and Strategic Goals
Approximately 60% of the funding, or nearly ₹3 crore, was contributed by roughly 20 doctors who currently use the Docterz platform. The round also included investments from Sugar Cosmetics’ Vineeta Singh and CaratLane’s Avnish Anand. The startup’s platform is designed to consolidate administrative and clinical workflows, allowing physicians to manage appointments, patient records, billing, and staff through a single system.
Platform Features and AI Integration
Docterz aims to reduce the administrative burden on clinics by automating routine tasks. The platform utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze prescription patterns, which assists doctors in generating recommendations. Additionally, the software includes inventory management tools for monitoring medical supplies and vaccine expiration dates.
For patients, the company offers a WhatsApp-based assistant. This feature allows users to schedule appointments, view live clinic waiting times, and access medical records without the need to download a separate mobile application.
Why it matters: The participation of existing customers in this funding round signals strong user confidence in the platform’s utility. By automating administrative tasks, Docterz seeks to address a common challenge in healthcare: enabling doctors to dedicate more time to patient care rather than clinic operations. This model of physician-backed healthtech could provide a blueprint for similar startups seeking to scale within the medical community.
