Indian Startup Funding Remains Subdued Amid Lack of Large Deals

Indian startups raised $115 million across 29 deals during the final week of October, marking a modest increase from the $96 million recorded the previous week. Despite the volume of transactions, the ecosystem continues to face challenges in attracting large-scale capital, with no deals exceeding $100 million reported during the period.

Investment Trends and Key Transactions

The largest investment of the week went to healthtech startup Cent, which secured $15 million from investors including Blume Ventures and South Park Commons. Artificial intelligence firms also attracted capital, with Simplismart raising $14 million from backers including NVIDIA and Accel, and Live2 ai securing approximately $14 million led by IvyCap Ventures.

Other notable transactions included:

  • Troovy: $10.4 million from Fireside Ventures and Sharrp Ventures.
  • Matiks: $10 million from General Catalyst, Ronnie Screwvala, and Info Edge Ventures.
  • Ace Blend: $9.91 million from 3one4 Capital and Fireside Ventures.
  • Rotoris: $8.5 million from Blume Ventures and 9Unicorns.

Market Outlook

Venture capital inflows into Indian startups have remained constrained throughout October, largely due to the absence of high-value deals. Analysts suggest that current investment levels are unlikely to shift significantly by the end of the year. The market faces ongoing difficulties in establishing a compelling AI investment narrative compared to global counterparts, contributing to the cautious funding environment. Industry observers anticipate that a potential turnaround in capital inflow may not materialize until 2027.

Why it matters: For emerging markets like those in the Middle East and Egypt, the Indian startup ecosystem serves as a key benchmark for capital trends. The persistent struggle to secure large-value funding in India highlights the global shift toward risk-averse investment strategies, providing a cautionary signal for founders and investors in other developing regions seeking to attract venture capital.
