Bengaluru-based space technology company Pixxel remains under Indian ownership and management, CEO Awais Ahmed stated following public scrutiny regarding the startup’s corporate structure. The clarification addresses concerns raised after the company announced the launch of a US-based subsidiary, Pixxel Federal.
2018
The company established its primary Indian entity in 2018. This entity functions as the main vehicle for executing contracts with the Indian government, as well as managing domestic space and defense programs. A separate international entity was incorporated in the United States a few months later to facilitate service for American and global clients.
Recent Developments
Pixxel announced the formation of Pixxel Federal to pursue contracts with US civilian, defense, and intelligence agencies. This announcement triggered online criticism and anonymous communications questioning the company’s national credentials. Ahmed stated that the company has faced targeted social media activity and attempts to cast doubt on its technological and ownership status.
Current Governance
Ahmed rejected claims that the US expansion compromises the company’s Indian control. He noted that Indian investors and the founders collectively hold the largest share of the company, followed by investors from Singapore, the UK, and the US. He added that no international investor holds unilateral control over the firm. The CEO clarified that Pixxel Federal operates with authority limited to its specific US operations and holds no influence over Indian government or defense programs. Intellectual property developed for Indian projects remains under Indian ownership and is governed by Indian law.
Future Outlook
Pixxel intends to continue its global expansion by establishing local entities to comply with national security and export regulations in various countries. The company plans to go public in India within the coming years, at which point its full corporate structure will be subject to public disclosure.
