Egypt’s Supreme Energy Council convened to address the utility requirements for 11 new industrial projects and several factory expansions. The meeting focused on securing electricity, natural gas, and water supplies to support national manufacturing growth and investment attraction.
Tuesday
The council held its 32nd meeting at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat chaired the session, which included Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid. Officials reviewed specific requests for utility infrastructure, including the construction of new substations to service energy-intensive sectors.
Project Reviews
The council evaluated proposals for diverse facilities across multiple industrial zones. These included food manufacturing plants in Sadat City, a tyre factory in the Sokhna area, a steel manufacturing project in 10th of Ramadan City, and an iron-rolling facility in Borg El Arab. Additionally, the council discussed ceramic and sanitary ware production sites within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Beyond new builds, the council addressed requests to increase electricity capacity for existing factories to support expanded production lines.
Current Status
The council approved several of the submitted proposals and coordinated arrangements for necessary energy supplies. Minister Esmat stated that current electricity generation is sufficient to meet demand across various voltage levels. He emphasized that these infrastructure efforts align with Egypt’s National Energy Strategy, which targets a 45% renewable energy share by 2028. The government aims to leverage these utility expansions to facilitate technology transfer and localize advanced industries.
