Egypt Aims to Produce 100,000 Electric Vehicles Annually by 2032

Cairo, Egypt – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced plans to reach an annual output of up to 100,000 electric vehicles (EVs) by 2032, part of a broader push to localise automotive manufacturing and cut import reliance.

Madbouly outlined the strategy in a meeting with Industry Minister Khaled Hashem and Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs Mohamed Sami. He said industrial growth, especially in the automotive sector, remains a top priority because of Egypt’s large domestic market and potential to export to neighbouring countries.

The government is focusing on EV production and related components to support a green transition, reduce fuel imports and lower the trade deficit. Hashem detailed several partnerships aimed at building a domestic supply chain.

One agreement involves an international firm, El Araby Group and the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) to produce seven metal automotive parts, with a combined capacity of 8 million pieces per year. The ministry is also working with Brazil’s Association of the Mould and Die Industry and the Productivity and Vocational Training Department to set up a vocational school for mould and die manufacturing.

On the battery front, Hashem cited a joint venture between an international company and local vehicle assembler MCV to use locally supplied batteries in buses, and talks with another foreign firm to provide batteries for EVs built in Egypt. A separate cooperation is under study to produce electric motors locally with the AOI.

A major international automaker plans to start assembling three EV models in Egypt in 2027, targeting the 100,000‑vehicle annual goal by 2032. The company aims to raise local component content from 10 % to 27 % over the same period.

Chinese Involvement and Infrastructure Upgrades

China’s Dongfeng has begun EV production in partnership with SN Automotive and the state‑owned El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company, using El Nasr’s existing lines. The localisation plan also includes upgrading the Engineering Industries Technology Centre in 10th of Ramadan City and developing laboratory testing capabilities for automotive parts.
