India Launches New RBI Data Center and Cybersecurity Hub in Odisha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new 169-crore rupee data center and Cybersecurity Training Institute for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. The facility, situated in the Info Valley-II area of Jatni, marks a significant expansion of the central bank’s digital infrastructure.

Expanding Digital Infrastructure

The new complex spans 18.55 acres. Foundation work for the project began on March 22, 2023, under the direction of then-RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. Officials stated that the site was selected for its geographical stability, noting its distance from seismically active zones and international borders to minimize risks from natural disasters or geopolitical instability.

Government officials announced that the data center will house mission-critical payment and settlement systems. It is intended to support the reliability and reach of digital financial services across the country. The accompanying Cybersecurity Training Institute aims to provide specialized research and training to strengthen enterprise technology capabilities within the financial sector.

Regional Impact and Future Strategy

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi noted that this facility is the second of its kind in India, following an established center in Navi Mumbai. He emphasized that the project contributes to the ongoing development of Odisha. The event was attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, and several state officials, including the Odisha Governor and Deputy Chief Ministers.

According to official statements, the infrastructure is designed to provide a secure, scalable, and resilient computing ecosystem. It is intended to serve as a foundation for India’s technology-driven financial economy.
