MakeMyTrip Returns to Profitability in Second Quarter

Online travel platform MakeMyTrip reported a net profit of $1.8 million for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, marking a turnaround from the $5.7 million loss recorded during the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter reached $235.2 million, representing an 11.2% increase year-over-year.

Key Takeaways

  • Financial turnaround: The company achieved a $1.8 million profit, contrasting with the prior year’s $5.7 million loss.
  • Revenue growth: Total revenue rose to $235.2 million, an 11.2% increase compared to the second quarter of the previous fiscal year.
  • Booking volume: Gross bookings grew by 20.9% in constant currency, reaching $2.7 billion.
  • AI integration: The platform’s AI tool, Myra, facilitated over 3,000 completed bookings per day during the period.
  • Segment performance: Growth was recorded across all sectors, with bus ticketing increasing by 29% and hotel and package bookings by 20.2%.

Strong Performance Across Segments

MakeMyTrip Group CEO Rajesh Magow attributed the results to strong growth across the company’s diversified portfolio, despite what the firm described as a challenging travel environment. Gross bookings reached $2.7 billion, driven by performance in the hotels and ground transport sectors.

Data from the company indicated growth across all primary business categories. Air ticketing margins increased by 14.3% annually, while the hotels and packages segment saw a 20.2% rise. The bus ticketing and “others” categories posted growth of 29% and 29.8%, respectively.

AI Platform Adoption

The company highlighted the performance of its AI-driven platform, Myra, which managed over 90,000 daily conversations during the quarter. More than 55% of these interactions originated from Tier II and Tier III cities. According to the company, Myra resolved over 53% of post-booking flight and hotel queries.

MakeMyTrip reported that users engaging with the AI tool completed approximately 1.7 times more bookings than non-users. This trend was more pronounced in smaller cities, where customers using Myra completed 2.1 times more bookings than those who did not. The tool supports end-to-end trip planning, voice interactions, and in-chat payments.
