Authors who received Italy’s 2026 Strega and Campiello literary awards will gather in Vigevano on October 18 for a joint appearance at the city’s annual literary fair.
The meeting, organized by the Vigevano cultural council, will bring together the two prize winners for a public discussion and book signing session. Organizers said the event aims to highlight the significance of contemporary Italian literature and foster dialogue between the two prestigious award programs.
Schedule and Highlights
According to the fair’s program, the authors will take the stage in the main auditorium at 11:00 a.m. after a brief introduction by the fair’s director. The session will include a moderated Q&A, followed by a reception for attendees.
Earlier in the month, on October 3, the Strega jury presented the “vera da pozzo” award, a special recognition given to a work that exemplifies depth and originality. The ceremony took place in Rome and was attended by members of the literary community.
Background
The Strega Prize, established in 1947, is Italy’s most prominent literary award, while the Campiello Prize, founded in 1962, is awarded by a panel of literary critics. Both prizes are awarded annually to novels written in Italian.
Vigevano, a town in Lombardy, hosts a yearly literary fair that draws authors, publishers, and readers from across the country. This year’s program marks the first time the winners of both awards will appear together.
