Egypt Partners With World Bank to Boost Foreign Investment and Exports

Egypt is collaborating with the World Bank Group to create an investment promotion strategy designed to attract foreign capital into productive sectors. The initiative aims to expand manufacturing, increase exports, and integrate major development projects with domestic supply chains.

Key Takeaways

  • Strategic focus: The plan identifies priority sectors across value chains to enhance productive capacity and boost export potential.
  • Renewable energy: Officials highlighted the manufacturing of renewable energy components as a key area for potential investment.
  • Policy stability: Attracting long-term private capital requires streamlined licensing, efficient approval processes, and stable economic policies.
  • Project preparation: Strengthening institutional capabilities to develop “bankable” projects through rigorous financial modeling reduces investor risk.
  • Market integration: Harmonizing trade rules and capital market regulations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is essential for cross-border growth.

Enhancing Private Sector Participation

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid outlined the strategy during the 2026 World Investment Forum in Doha. He stated that the government intends to leverage Egypt’s existing trade agreements to grant investors access to regional and international markets. This approach is intended to improve project viability and increase the likelihood of securing financing.

Farid noted that the government must reduce the burden on investors by improving the quality of project preparation. This involves conducting comprehensive technical and economic studies, as well as robust risk assessments, particularly for infrastructure, water, and energy sectors. By providing these resources, the state aims to make projects more attractive to private entities.
