PhysicsWallah Partners with Indian Government to Boost Rural Startups

PhysicsWallah’s School of Startups (PW SoS) has signed a two-year memorandum of understanding with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to support early-stage ventures. The partnership focuses on expanding entrepreneurial resources to Tier-II and Tier-III cities and rural areas across India.

Support for Grassroots Innovation

The collaboration integrates training, mentorship, prototype development, and investor access. According to Ateesh Kumar Singh, Additional Secretary at DPIIT, the initiative aims to provide grassroots innovators with infrastructure and resources to build scalable businesses. PW SoS, which is an accredited incubator under the Uttar Pradesh government’s StartinUP initiative, offers a variety of programs tailored to different stages of business development.

These offerings include the PW UDYAMI program, which features 90 days of live online training and one year of mentorship. The Aarambh Immersion initiative provides a five-day residential program for networking and prototype development. Additionally, the six-month PW DeepTech Accelerator targets specific ventures, while the Growth Stage CEO Programme supports 200 DPIIT-recognized startups through hybrid cohorts.

Expanding the Startup Ecosystem

The DPIIT reports that it has recognized over 250,000 startups across more than 770 districts, with 52% located in non-metro cities. Recent government financial efforts include the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, which has approved approximately Rs 775.67 crore for 4,194 startups, with more than half of these grants allocated to ventures in smaller cities. Furthermore, the government launched a Rs 10,000 crore Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0 in April to channel capital through investment funds.

Rounaq Mustafa, head of PW SoS, stated that the partnership seeks to democratize access to funding and mentorship. The initiative also includes the National AI Startup Challenge and SeedX, which provide opportunities for corporate pilots and proof-of-concept development.
