Indian Spacetech Startup Pixxel Launches US Subsidiary for Government Contracts

Bengaluru-based space technology company Pixxel has established a new US subsidiary, Pixxel Federal, aimed at securing government contracts. The startup intends to open an office near Washington, DC, to provide earth observation technologies, satellite systems, and geospatial intelligence to American civilian, defense, and intelligence agencies.

January 2025

Allyson Jenkins, formerly the company’s Vice President of Public Sector, began leading Pixxel’s US government business. She has now been appointed CEO of the newly formed Pixxel Federal subsidiary.

September 2025

Pixxel closed a Series C funding round, raising $100 million. Co-led by Temasek and Seraphim, this investment brought the company’s total private funding to approximately $195 million. Investors in the startup include Google, Radical Ventures, and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Recent Developments

The company secured a contract through NASA’s Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition Programme and a Strategic Commercial Enhancements contract from the National Reconnaissance Office. Pixxel plans to use its hyperspectral satellite constellation and imaging software to support applications including environmental monitoring, agriculture, and camouflage detection. In India, the firm is developing a 12-satellite Earth observation constellation under the IN-SPACe program.

Current Status

Pixxel is positioning itself to expand its presence in the American aerospace sector. By leveraging its existing relationships with NASA and the NRO, the company aims to offer advanced sensing and satellite mission systems to federal clients.

Why it matters: The expansion highlights the growing role of private Indian technology firms in the global aerospace market. As Pixxel strengthens its ties with US federal agencies, it demonstrates the increasing cross-border integration of satellite intelligence and defense infrastructure, a sector of rising strategic importance for both emerging economies and international space powers.
