Gurugram-based fleet management startup Carrum Mobility has reached a valuation of ₹233 crore, supported by a $17 million investment from ride-hailing giant Uber. Founded in 2024 by former Revv co-founder Karan Jain, the company operates a fleet of 5,500 vehicles that fulfill over one million rides per month.
The Fleet Operations Model
Carrum Mobility functions as a third-party operator, managing vehicles and driver partners for Uber’s various service tiers, including Uber Go, Premium, and Black. By assuming responsibility for vehicle maintenance, driver onboarding, and financial settlements, the startup provides a bridge for individuals who wish to work as ride-hailing drivers but lack the capital to purchase or maintain their own vehicles.
According to Jain, the company is currently profitable. The startup’s revenue model relies on the consistent deployment of its fleet. Operational data indicates that an Uber Black vehicle generates approximately ₹1 lakh in monthly revenue, while an Uber Go vehicle generates ₹65,000. Uber Black accounts for roughly 28% of the company’s total revenue, despite making up only about 20% of the fleet.
Operational Efficiency and Technology
Carrum utilizes data analytics to maximize fleet productivity. The company tracks vehicle performance and provides drivers with insights, such as heat maps and recommendations for optimal login times, to increase ride opportunities and minimize vehicle downtime. This strategy allows the startup to distribute maintenance and financing costs across a high volume of trips. The company currently supports a network of over 28,000 driver partners.
Strategic Dependencies
While the partnership with Uber provides access to significant ride demand without the need for a consumer-facing application, it also creates a reliance on a single platform. Future growth depends on whether the company can maintain its current scale or diversify its services beyond its existing agreement with Uber.
