PB Fintech, the parent company of digital insurance platform Policybazaar and credit aggregator Paisabazaar, reported a 42.5% increase in net profit for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year. The company posted a net profit of Rs 192.4 crore, up from Rs 135 crore during the same period last year.
Revenue for the quarter reached Rs 2,177.7 crore, representing a 35% increase compared to the previous year. The company recorded a total insurance premium of Rs 9,385 crore, reflecting 38% year-on-year growth. The core online insurance business grew by 42%, while new health insurance premiums rose by 46%.
Operational Performance and Expansion
PB Fintech reported total lending disbursals of Rs 4,739 crore during the quarter. The company expanded its network of insurance advisors by 1.3 lakh, bringing the total count to approximately 5.5 lakh. According to the company, these distributors are driving growth in smaller towns and cities, which accounted for 76% of the overall gross written premium.
AI Integration and Regulatory Outlook
The company highlighted its use of artificial intelligence to manage customer interactions. PB Fintech stated that it processes 21 lakh calls daily using AI across seven Indian languages, with 17 lakh minutes of conversation analyzed daily. The company reported that AI integration has resulted in a 15% increase in advisor productivity and a 20% improvement in conversion rates. Additionally, AI document processing saves approximately 1,000 hours of labor per day.
These financial results arrive amid proposed changes by the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) regarding commission structures for insurance agents. The company noted that these potential regulatory adjustments could impact its future growth trajectory.
Why it matters: PB Fintech’s reliance on digital distribution and AI-driven efficiency serves as a bellwether for the broader fintech sector. The company’s ability to scale in smaller markets while automating customer service demonstrates the potential for digital platforms to capture under-served demographics, though regulatory shifts regarding agent commissions remain a significant variable for its business model.
