American Brandon McNulty Wins World Cycling Title in Montreal

American rider Brandon McNulty, 28, claimed the world championship on the steep finish of Montreal’s Parc Avenue, becoming the first U.S. rider to win the title in the event.

Seven years ago

McNulty, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, earned his first European victory on Mount Etna during the Giro di Sicilia, marking his arrival on the pro circuit.

Recent seasons

He later joined a team supporting Tadej Pogačar in the United Arab Emirates, gaining experience in WorldTour races.

Last year

McNulty won the Grand Prix de Montréal, finishing on the same uphill stretch that would host this year’s world championship.

This weekend

In a sprint finish on the 600‑metre climb, McNulty out‑sprinted rivals including Remco Seixas and Alejandro Del Toro, who faded after earlier attacks. His victory was celebrated by his Slovenian team manager, who praised the rider’s perseverance.

What comes next

McNulty’s triumph adds a rare American win to the sport’s elite ranks. He will defend his title at next year’s world championships while his team plans a full season of WorldTour races.
