Shell Lubricants Egypt (SLE) has entered a partnership with MANDREAM, the authorized distributor for BYD in Egypt, to supply specialized oils and fluids for the automaker’s fleet. The agreement covers a range of vehicles, including new energy vehicles (NEVs) such as plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell models.
Expanding New Energy Vehicle Support
While NEVs rely on different operating technologies than traditional internal combustion engines, they require specialized fluids for maintenance and daily operation. Through this collaboration, Shell plans to utilize its global lubricant expertise to provide products designed for BYD’s advanced passenger car technologies.
Haytham Yehia, chairman and CEO of Shell Lubricants Egypt, stated that the partnership represents a strategic expansion into the growing NEV segment. He noted that the company aims to provide high-quality fluids to maintain vehicle performance and protect engines for motorists adopting these newer vehicle types.
Strategic Development in Egypt
MANDREAM, as the sole importer and distributor for BYD in Egypt, intends to use the partnership to bolster its after-sales service network. Khaled Youssef, CEO of MANDREAM, said the agreement aligns with the company’s expansion plans to keep pace with the rapid development of the electric and hybrid vehicle sector in the country.
Youssef added that the collaboration aims to enhance value for customers by integrating international technological solutions into their service centers.
Why it matters: This deal signals the increasing integration of global automotive technology providers into the Egyptian market. As Egypt shifts toward more sustainable transportation options, the availability of specialized maintenance products for electric and hybrid vehicles becomes essential for supporting consumer adoption and ensuring the long-term reliability of new energy fleets.
