On Saturday, a new street‑art mural honoring former Italian parliamentarian Nilde Iotti was unveiled on an E‑Distribuzione utility cabin in Settimo Torinese, part of a city‑wide route celebrating the “Madri Costituenti” – the women who drafted Italy’s post‑war constitution.
The work, created by local artists, depicts Iotti, the first female President of the Chamber of Deputies, alongside symbolic elements of democracy and gender equality. Municipal officials said the piece marks the latest addition to a series of installations that trace the historic contributions of women to Italy’s democratic foundation.
Project background
The “Madri Costituenti” trail was launched earlier this year by the Settimo Torinese council in partnership with E‑Distribuzione and cultural associations. It aims to transform ordinary urban infrastructure into public art that educates residents and visitors about the constitutional legacy of women such as Iotti, Grazia De Leonardo and others.
Mayor Marco Rossi attended the unveiling, noting that the mural reinforces the city’s commitment to preserving historical memory through contemporary expression. He added that similar projects are planned for other neighborhoods, using utility poles, benches and walls as canvases.
