Japanese automaker Nissan displayed the Z Kaze concept at a recent auto show, converting its flagship Z model into a targa-style sports car reminiscent of 1990s tuning culture.
The prototype features a removable roof panel that creates an open-air driving experience while retaining the Z’s original chassis and powertrain. Designers incorporated retro styling cues such as wide fenders, a low-slung silhouette and bold color schemes popular in the era.
According to Nissan officials, the Z Kaze aims to explore consumer interest in customizable, performance-oriented convertibles without compromising the Z’s handling characteristics. The concept is built on the current Z platform, preserving its rear-wheel-drive layout and engine specifications.
Design and Features
The targa roof can be detached in under a minute, and the interior includes sport seats with contrast stitching, a carbon-fiber dashboard and a modern infotainment system. Exterior accents include a front splitter, rear diffuser and 19-inch alloy wheels that echo the look of classic Japanese tuners.
Future Outlook
Nissan said the Z Kaze will be evaluated for potential production, pending market feedback and regulatory considerations. The company plans to gauge interest through digital surveys and potential limited-run releases later this year.
